Exile And The Kingdom

Exile 05:05
This is my own little piece of desolation From the cracks in the ground to this absurdist television The sun comes bursting through the blinds With every breath, I kiss this world goodbye The sound it makes is full of nothing Just a desperate grasp for a way To find some sign to mark our space in time When we know this all will blow away The drama of exile in your homeland A man with no country, no ally or friend Moving in silence whenever I must Nothing to hold onto, no one to trust This is my own little piece of desolation This is my own little piece of desolation I watch the grass in the cracks and these insipid politicians The sun beats down and the fan turns 'round As this world pisses itself away My visions take ahold of me - More violently with each passing day Everywhere I look, I see the eulogy for the human race Circling the drain, thrashing with pain, drowning in its own waste Mercy of cruelty, the loneliness of truth Freedom found in solitude Being and nothingness - one in the same Knowing this all will fade away This is my own little piece of desolation From the cracks in the ground to this bankrupt television With nothing of value, nothing to say Smiling, spitting lies all day The sound it makes is full of nothing Just a flash of impotent rage At our insignificance in the grand scheme of things This is my own little piece of desolation This is my own little piece of desolation Lyrics: William Street - SYNSEN Music (BMI)

about

"Human Observation Lab is not about perfection...maybe it is about learning to truly embrace imperfection. These 2 songs have long roots - they can be traced in some form to the late 90s ("Exile" was an idea kicking around since then and "Delusion" is a version of a song written for a previous band). The name Human Observation Lab is taken from a club/arts incubator that existed in KC, MO when I was very young. Later, another all ages club that I did frequent was in the very same space - it was called Rhumba Box. Still, these songs reflect (in a mostly abstract way) places I've been in the last few years."
